New airline Powdair, to be based in Sion, announces flights from UK to Sion for the coming season. Plans to fly from 6 regional UK airports will provide easy access to the Valais. Flights from Southampton, Bristol, Southend, Luton, Manchester and Edinburgh will operate between 3 to 5 times per week.
A one way fare will be around £140, including 23kgs of baggage, plus skis. Discounted season tickets are also on offer.
An airbus 319 is the plane of choice for the operators – with 160 seats, having recently changed from the lower capacity Fokker with 100 seats.
Flights to Sion will reduce the transit time from Geneva airport (by car or train) by two hours and take travellers directly into the 4 Valleys ski area. This will be a very attractive proposition for those skiing in Nendaz, Verbier, Crans Montana, Saas Fee, Zermatt and other local Swiss resorts.
