Megève Ski Resort

Megève, originally a medieval town, became one of the first purpose built ski resorts in the French Alps. Close to the Swiss border, situated in the Rhone Alps region of France, it is one of the most popular luxury ski resorts in Europe.

Originally patronised by the French aristocracy, Megeve was re-invented as a ski resort by the Rothschilds in the early 20th century. They constructed the first French cable car for skiing, modernised, but still in operation today, it is the fastest way to reach the Rochebrune Ridge.

Megève still retains its Medieval charm, with pedestrian only cobble streets, beautifully restored buildings and charming churches. With many distractions for non-skiers, well marked walking paths, horse-drawn sleigh rides and excellent shopping, it is not surprising that it remains a well-loved destination.

The skiing is also special, in that it forms part of the Evasion Mont Blanc ski domain, totalling 445kms of groomed pistes. Summer in Megève is also popular as there are plenty of leisure and sports activities to pursue.
